History of Grama Panchayat
Kathiroor Grama Panchayat is located in Thalassery taluk of Kannur district. The name Kathiroor is derived from the name “Kathiravante Oor” in connection with the Sree Suryanarayana Temple. The vast paddy fields and abundance of ears of rice are said to be another reason for the place name. The Thalassery-Coorg road is the main transport route of this area. During the British era, this road was used to transport trade goods to the port. The Kathiroor Government High School, established in 1922, played a major role in the field of education. The area became a center for socio-political changes. The renaissance thoughts of Sree Narayana Guru had an influence here.
