OPERATION THUFAN – THE NARCO HUNT
OPERATION THUFAN – THE NARCO HUNT
A Stronger Fight Against Drugs — For a Safer Society
Drug use and the spread of narcotic substances pose a serious challenge to the safety of society and the future of the younger generation. “Operation Thufan – The Narco Hunt” is a strong anti-drug initiative being implemented under the joint leadership of the Local Self-Government Department, Police, and Excise Department, with the objective of building a strong, people-centred resistance against this social menace.
Drug abuse not only affects an individual's health and family life but also adversely impacts the peace, security, and well-being of society. The increasing use and distribution of narcotic substances, particularly among young people and students, is a matter of serious concern. A young life falling into the grip of drugs is not merely a loss to a family but a loss to society as a whole. Therefore, the fight against drugs is not the responsibility of any single department or a few officials alone; it is a collective responsibility of every citizen.
Operation Thufan focuses on strengthening anti-drug activities while creating greater public awareness, educating the younger generation about the harmful effects of drug abuse, and encouraging the public to bring information regarding the illegal sale and distribution of narcotic substances to the attention of the concerned authorities.
The concept of “The Narco Hunt” represents a collective effort to identify the sources and distribution networks of narcotic substances and to strengthen lawful enforcement measures. The public can also play a vital role in this initiative by sharing reliable information regarding the sale and distribution of drugs with the concerned authorities.
Coordinated participation from families, educational institutions, Local Self-Government Institutions, Police, Excise, healthcare workers, voluntary organisations, clubs, youth organisations, elected representatives, and social workers is essential in the fight against drugs. Observing changes in the behaviour of children and young people, listening to their concerns, and providing them with appropriate support and guidance are important responsibilities of families and the community.
Society must also recognise the importance of providing treatment, counselling, and rehabilitation support wherever necessary, rather than viewing people affected by drug use only as offenders. At the same time, strict action in accordance with existing laws must be ensured against those involved in the illegal sale and distribution of narcotic substances.
Operation Thufan is not an initiative limited to a single programme or event. It is a people-centred movement aimed at creating continuous social awareness and collective action against drugs. Its fundamental objective is to take the anti-drug message to every ward and every family while ensuring a healthy life and better opportunities for the younger generation.
